What’s Included in a Bathroom Demo Job
A standard bathroom demolition at Junk Doctors covers everything from tile and fixtures to drywall and cement board — down to whatever level your contractor needs exposed. That scope gets confirmed with you before we start so there are no surprises about what’s coming out versus what’s staying.
Tile removal is the most time-intensive part of most bathroom demos. Floor tile with thick mortar beds, or wall tile that was mudded rather than adhesive-set, takes longer than thinset tile over drywall. Older bathroom renovations in Raleigh and Charlotte homes from the 1970s and 1980s frequently have the heavier mortar bed installations — plan for extra time on those.
Cast iron tub removal is included and it doesn’t cost extra. We have the tools for it — angle grinder to cut it into manageable sections, heavy-duty dollies to move the pieces. A cast iron tub weighs 200–350 lbs; cutting it into thirds or quarters makes the job manageable without special equipment. We’ve done this enough times that it’s routine, not a problem.
Once the demo is done, all debris goes on the truck. You don’t need a dumpster, you don’t need a second crew. Tile, drywall, tub sections, fixtures, and hardware all load together. A typical 5x8 or 5x10 bathroom generates about a quarter to a third of a truck load of debris when fully gutted.
