Why Junk Doctors

Why Customers Choose Us

1

Test for Asbestos Before 1980s Homes Are Touched

Homes built before 1980 may contain asbestos in drywall joint compound, textured surfaces (popcorn ceilings), insulation, and floor tile. Disturbing these materials without testing first is a serious health risk. Hire a licensed inspector to test before any demo work begins. After abatement, we handle the remaining non-hazardous debris.

2

Electrical Is Off Before We Start

Drywall demo involves working near electrical wiring in walls and ceilings. The circuits in the affected areas must be dead before we start. Confirm with your electrician before we arrive.

3

We Work in Phases With Your Contractor

Many drywall demo jobs happen as part of a larger renovation. We can coordinate with your GC to clear demo debris at the right point in the project sequence — after rough-in if needed, before new drywall goes up.

4

Drywall Is Heavy and Dusty

A standard room of drywall generates significant weight. Plaster-and-lath generates even more. We contain the work area as best we can and remove debris systematically to keep the rest of the house livable during the job.

FAQ

Questions Answered.

Interior non-structural drywall removal typically does not require a permit in North Carolina. If the renovation includes changes to structural walls, electrical panels, or plumbing, associated permits may apply. Check with your GC or local building department for your specific project.
Asbestos testing is strongly recommended before any demo work in pre-1980 homes. Asbestos can be present in joint compound, textured surfaces, insulation, and floor tile. A licensed asbestos inspector can test and clear the space before we start. We do not remove asbestos-containing materials.
Yes. Plaster-and-lath systems in older homes take more time than standard drywall but we handle both. Plaster generates significantly more debris by weight, which factors into the price.
Yes, with coordination. We can phase the work around your contractor's schedule and work in specific rooms while others are active. Communicate the job sequence when you book.
We remove drywall ceilings and can remove non-asbestos popcorn texture systems. Pre-1978 popcorn ceilings may contain asbestos — test first.
Pricing is based on volume of material removed and labor required. Plaster-and-lath is heavier and more time-intensive than standard drywall. Ceiling work is more labor-intensive than wall work. We price on-site after assessing the scope.
