Why Junk Doctors

Why Customers Choose Us

1

Deconstruction Takes Longer Than Demo — Plan for It

Removing materials carefully without breaking them takes more time than a standard tearout. Deconstruction jobs are priced and scheduled differently from straight demo. If your timeline is tight, standard demo with debris hauling is faster and cheaper. If diverting materials from the landfill matters to you, deconstruction is the right approach.

2

Salvageable Materials Go to Donation or Resale

Recovered materials go to Habitat for Humanity ReStores, local architectural salvage dealers, and nonprofit partners where they can. What gets donated is a function of condition, not just category — cracked cabinets and rotted lumber don't donate regardless of age.

3

Older Homes Have More Worth Saving

Pre-1960 homes often have old-growth lumber, solid wood doors, clawfoot tubs, and architectural details that are expensive to replicate. If you're gutting or tearing down an older home, it's worth a conversation before demo starts to identify what has real salvage value.

4

Non-Salvageable Material Is Still Hauled

Whatever can't be recovered comes out as demo debris — same day, same crew. You don't need a second hauler for what's left after salvage. One job covers both.

FAQ

Questions Answered.

Demolition tears materials out fast — the goal is speed and volume. Deconstruction removes materials carefully so they can be reused — the goal is salvage. Deconstruction takes longer and costs more but diverts significantly more material from the landfill.
Solid wood cabinetry, old-growth lumber, cast iron fixtures, clawfoot tubs, interior and exterior doors, quality light fixtures, and architectural hardware. Modern materials — particleboard cabinets, hollow-core doors, drywall — rarely have salvage value.
Primarily to Habitat for Humanity ReStores and local architectural salvage dealers. What's accepted depends on condition and what the partners currently need. We don't guarantee all materials will be donated — condition is the deciding factor.
It varies by the scope and what's being salvaged, but plan for deconstruction to cost more than standard demo due to the additional labor time. The offset is potential donation tax receipts if materials are donated to a nonprofit.
If materials are donated to a qualifying nonprofit like a Habitat ReStore, they can provide a donation receipt. The value assessment is done by the receiving organization, not by us.
If the deconstruction is part of a larger demolition or renovation project that requires a permit, then yes — the same permits apply. Removing interior fixtures and cabinets from a home you own typically does not require a separate permit.
